Don’t you love good ol’ Christian double-talk??? NOT!

Jesus Christ when he was on earth told his followers: “Let your yes be yes and no be no—anything else is from the evil one.”  Sometimes his followers somehow skipped that wonderful piece of advice given nearly 2000 years ago. Hat tip to Tentmaker.org to their list of what constitutes “Christian Doubletalk”. I’m sure one can add on to the list below.

Christian Double-Talk

What Traditional Christians Say… What They Really Mean…
“There’s nothing you must do to be saved……” “Here’s what you must do to be saved:”
“You are absolutely, totally helpless to save yourself.” “You must make a wise decision in order to be saved.”
“God controls all things.” “God doesn’t control man’s free will.”
“We can’t boast about going to heaven.” “If we go to hell, it’s our own fault.”
“Love never faileth!” “Love can’t overcome human stubborness.”
“Men are in bondage to sin.” “Men are free to choose Christ.”
“Grace is unmerited favor…” “… given only to those who merit it with faith and obedience.”
“GOD IS THE SAVIOR OF ALL MANKIND
(1 Tim. 4:10)…”
“… except for about ninety percent of them.”
“GOD’S LOVE IN UNCONDITIONAL…” “… as long as you meet certain conditions.”
“GOD’S WILL IS UNOPPOSABLE…” “… except by the sinner.”
“Salvation is not a thing of chance.” “There is no second chance to be saved.”
“WE HAVE GOOD NEWS FOR YOU!” “Most of mankind will perish forever.”
“GOD LOVES YOU!” “… as long as you love Him.”
“Christ died for all sin…” “… except the sin of not believing that He died for all sin.”
“The Good Shepherd seeks the lost sheep until he finds it!” “The Good Shepherd seeks until it’s too late.”
“God’s justice was satisfied in the cross of Christ.” “God’s justice demands eternal torment or annihilation.”

Personal condolences to the Pryor family and the Center of Judaic Christian Studies

Dwight A Pryor: 1945-2011

We at  Life After WCG: A Spiritual Pilgrimage of an Independent Believer give sincere heartfelt condolences to the family of Dwight Pryor, the founder and President of the Centre for Judaic Christian Studies, and all associates no matter how big or small who have been affiliated with his organization.  Mr. Pryor’s battle with a lengthly illness had ended in the manner least expected on February 5, 2011. Those of us who took a very strong interest in the Hebraic heritage and origin of the Christian faith have felt a strong sense of loss with one less voice in the movement. From an eternal perspective, we rejoice that Mr.Pryor’s spirit has returned to his Maker and look forward to the promises that believers like Mr. Pryor will have spirit and body reunited in resurrection being in an eternal glorified state. It is my prayer and hope that JCS will continue to strive on as an organization without it’s founder and it will only achieve greater success—more than Mr.Pryor would ever imagine. May the Lord comfort all during this time of loss.

Getting to know Dr.Hugh Ross

I have wanted to do some posts on astrophysicist Hugh Ross, who is what I call a progressive creationist, in which he believes that the earth and the universe is billions and billions of years old unlike “young earth creationism” that believes that the earth and the universe is 6000-10,000 years and was created in 6 literal days. I have had the chance to see him present his theories when he came to Toronto in May 2009.  I could only say one word: mind-blowing.  I also had the fortune to meet him in person at that time. Reminds me a little bit of The Watchman’s character of Dr.Manhattan (but born again with Christian values of course). This clip introduces who Dr.Hugh Ross is and his life story. I never knew (maybe a little hunch here and there because his speech patterns are similar to Jesse Eisenberg’s version Matt Zuckerberg of the movie The Social Network) that he has Asperger’s syndrome, a neurological disorder on the autistic spectrum. He found this out 6 years ago at age 60! He explains this in the video clip below. By the way I have his organization Reasons To Believe on my links section.

Why Do Christians shoot their wounded?!

This is another topic that just gets me very angry. It is time for the Christian Church to admit they have a problem. Shooting the wounded is sick, a form of sadism and nothing more than a competition of self-righteousness. People who react and do not go to any other church because of this nonsense—HAVE NOT BACKSLIDDEN WHATSOEVER!!!  Oh yes, I am shouting and shouting out very loud! I have no pity for those who “blame the victim”, absolutely none. Have I been at the receiving end of this, personally—you bet and it is no fun but these people in the clip below have had it far worse. It would help if the Christian Church took seriously about what scripture talks about `bearing another`s burden“, it would go a long way giving Christianity a better name than it deserves.

Guaranteed to offend

Hat tip to the Free Believers Network (Facebook Version). I don`t know much about this young man Chris Tse (except that he is a fellow Canadian boy from Vancouver) but I know this is NOT the last I and others have heard about him. You might not agree with everything in his poem but you have to conclude he has some valid points. Of course, those in the institutionalized church (or organized religion) will take offense.  I say good for them. They need a little offense. Jesus Christ himself, raised a little hell himself and the world became better because of it.

Laughs with A Recovering Fundamentalist

I also found this on the Facebook version of The Free Believer’s Network. This clip is from former pastor turned comedian Richard Rossi.  Proving once again that there is life after Christian fundamentalism and more abundantly. Looking forward to one of these days that when a minister from the XCGs has enough of crazy religion and he does his own satire on the whole charade. Can’t wait!

I Have A Dream 2011 (The Christian Church)

(Editor’s note: this is taken from the Facebook version of The Free Believers Network. One person decided to have his own version of the famous I Have A Dream Speech origninally given by late U.S. Civil Rights leader Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., but addressed to the Westernized (particularly North American) Christian Church today. This past Saturday it was Dr. King’s 82nd birthday if he was still with us today and Monday, the United States will be taking a statutory holiday in his memory. I think this was far better than commenting on the 25th anniversary of the death of Herbert Armstrong. Dr.King, whether you agreed with him or not, made a positive difference for America—he light a candle where Herbert Armstrong cursed the darkness (in sadomasochistic fashion of course).  Here is the new version of I Have A Dream: the King legacy lives on!)

I have a dream that one day pastors will be seen as equals and not having authority over their fellow man!

I have a dream today.

I have a dream that the church will just be who she is in all of her splendor and not the monstrosity men have turned her into.

I have a dream today.

I have a dream where men will not look to men to lead them but will trust and follow their own good, renewed hearts.

I have a dream today.

I have a dream where even the pope will issue an official apology for using the love of Christ as a means to prosper his own earthly and corrupt kingdom.

I have a dream today.

I have a dream where people can be comfortable being themselves with each other… flaws and all. That is what makes us human and real.

I have a dream today.

When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, “Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!”

A little COG Humour

It is believed that the new splinter from the United Church of God has decided to permanently call itself  Church of God, A Worldwide Association. Thanks to friends on Ambassador Reports, others believed that some other names could have fitted the bill.

Church of God, AWA- Church of God, Associated Worldwide Alcoholics

Church of God, AWA- Church of God, Alcoholics Within Armstrongism

Church of God, ACA – Church of God, AC Alcoholics

Church of God, AWA – Church of God, Almost Without Armstrong

OR

Church of God, Apocaholics Anonymous Association

Intelligent Quote of The Day

We can not extract modern ideas from an ancient book.”

This is a very short sighted, shallow, and egocentric way of looking at our world and it’s history.

Philosophy hasn’t changed much in the last few thousand years, only the current fads and fashions do. Aristotle is just as relevant today as he was in his time. The more people change, the more they stay the same, which makes ancient books very important in understanding the modern world today.
